  • Express Yourself! SEND Art Sessions at Friction Arts

Express Yourself! SEND Art Sessions at Friction Arts

Friction Arts is the base for holiday art sessions during July and August for SEND young people and siblings.   The Edge – Friction’s beautiful new SEND-friendly space just outside Birmingham City Centre on Cheapside in Highgate/Digbeth – is the venue.  Parent/carers are welcome to stay for some or all of the sessions which are on Tuesday mornings (10-12.30pm) on 21 and 28 July and 4, 11 and 18 August.

Fox Hollies Special School and artists Grace Mahar and Rachel Hinks are working together with Friction on these sessions which offer a chance for participants to learn and practice skills, get into their own and new areas of interest and make art that may be on show at the New Hope Community Park Festival in Highgate later this Summer.

The Edge is at 79-81 Cheapside B12 0QH.  There is limited on-site or street parking.  It is a 5 minute walk from Moor Street station and a 15 minute walk from Birmingham New Street (or 5 mins in a cab). There are many buses including the 50; the 35, 45 and 47; and the 2, 3, 4, 4A, 5, 6, 17, 60, 97, and X2 which stop on Digbeth High Street.

Friction Arts is an Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation which has been working internationally and locally from its base in Birmingham for more than 25 years including through partnerships with local communities.  It is highly respected for its socially engaged approach and gained significant national prestige when it was named a top-10 finalist for the prestigious Gulbenkian Foundation UK Civic Arts Award in 2021.
