SEND children and young people aged 5-18 in Birmingham, bring your families for a free day out at Ackers Adventure:
The Big Birmingham SEND Adventure Playday is at Ackers on 26 August 10am-2pm.
There are free activities and free lunch for children with snacks and ice cream available to buy on site.
There is parking at Ackers; buses nearby are 4, 8A, X1, X2, 4A and the nearest station is Small Heath which is a 15 minute walk.
Book places for summer art sessions for young people aged 10-16 (up to 18 if SEND) at Friction Arts’ base – The Edge – in Highgate/Digbeth. A healthy meal is included. And the sessions are FREE.
Dates and times are 1.30 – 4.30pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays between Tuesday 21 July and Wednesday 19 August.
These free sessions are for young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and young people who are eligible for Free School Meals. The Edge is a great SEND-friendly space. The sessions are run by Friction Arts – which works internationally and well as locally from its Birmingham base – as part of their Home in Highgate project. Art works produced will be shown at the New Hope Community Park Carnival later this Summer.
There’s limited on-site or street parking at The Edge. Moor Street station is a 5 minute walk and New Street is about 15 minutes by foot or a short cab ride away. There are buses including the 50; 35,45 and 47 nearby; and the 2, 3, 4, 6, 17. 60 that stop on Digbeth High Street.
Free sessions for SEND and FSM eligible children and young people with an interest in the world around us.
This Summer make new friends and find out about how things work – from rockets to bugs, our hearts to fabrics and fashion… and how Mondrian and Van Gogh used line and colour innovatively and in very different ways to describe how they saw the world about them. Sessions run every weekday afternoon from 3 to 14 August and include garden challenges, craft activities as well as hands-on science for different ages.

There are morning and afternoon sessions most days during the holidays at Square Peg’s base in Sutton Coldfield. Special themed activities run as well as running, jumping, bike and scooter riding in the gardens. There’s a Nerf Battle, trips to Weston-Super-Mare and Twycross, a Sports day, Water Fight Day and a Party at the end of August.
Parents/carers come and stay at Square Peg – and get support from other SEND families.

SEND and FSM eligible children and young people are on the path to Nature and Forest School activities at Youth Pathway sessions at Ward End Allotments and Piers Road, Handsworth this Summer – along with sports, art and crafts.
Led by qualified Forest School instructors and teaching support staff, Youth Pathway sessions aim to help participants sow seeds of success. Outdoor learning experiences help children reconnect with nature while gaining practical skills.

Birmingham kids can go free to this fantastic site on dates throughout the Summer. Unaccompanied children can come from 8 years and up and younger ones with a responsible adult. General sessions might not work for all SEND young people – so there are some special SEND sessions too – in partnership with local SEND network SoLO. Adventurous and creative play opportunities abound and there’s delicious healthy food each day too.

West Midlands Circus Centre is offering FREE circus sessions (aerial silk, hoop, parkour and partner acrobatics) run by qualified teachers for young people with Special Educational Needs or who are eligible for Free School Meals during weeks: 27-31 July and 10-14 August.

ROAM – the parent-led group based in Birmingham that says children have a right to unsupervised play – is organising two SEN-friendly free sessions at the Bournville Village Trust Garden on Bristol Road/Bournville Lane on 14 and 28 August. These sessions are HAF-funded – so they will include a healthy meal and they are open to children who get Free School Meals as well as SEND children.

Table tennis, basketball, football, climbing & abseiling, circus skills, badminton, online dance classes, canoeing, race across Birmingham challenge, skiing and group games are on offer at ASYP in Kings Heath this Summer. The Project, supports all young people between 10 and 19 (and older for those with learning disabilities), in their transition from childhood, through adolescence to adulthood through the provision of an integrated and holistic programme that strives to be accessible and inclusive, particularly for those with additional needs.

Garden Explorers is a free inclusive holiday club welcoming children and young people with Special Education Needs and Disabilities aged 11-18 years old, and living or going to school/college in Birmingham.
It’s run by Thrive – the national organisation which uses gardening to bring about positive changes in the lives of people living with disabilities or ill health, or who are isolated, disadvantaged or vulnerable.
Garden Explorers is based at the Thrive Garden in Kings Heath Park. Sessions: 6th, 11th, 20th and 25th August 2026
